How it started.
The human body is complicated, so it helps to think about it in a simple way. Imagine your blood is like a cargo ship, carrying oxygen as its most important cargo. As it moves through your body, it makes stops at your organs, dropping off oxygen to keep everything working.
One of our expat members, who lives in Dakar, wasn’t getting enough oxygen in his blood. He went to the emergency room because of a cancer-related condition, and his oxygen levels were dangerously low. He was getting weaker and needed help right away. That’s when our team stepped in to support him through a serious medical emergency.
How we helped.
Getting the right care in Senegal can be tough. There are language barriers, unreliable internet, and sometimes even phone issues. But our amazing multilingual team was ready. They quickly contacted our trusted medical partners and worked closely with local doctors.
The member needed to be moved to a different hospital fast. But before he could be flown out by air ambulance, we had to find a hospital that would take him—and confirm there was a bed ready. Time was running out. Our team acted quickly, getting him a spot at Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London. We even made sure his spouse could fly with him.
From beginning to end, we took care of the details so the member could focus on getting better. We arranged direct payment to the hospital and stayed in touch with the doctors every day. After he was discharged, we kept supporting him and his spouse—helping with follow-up care both in London and back in Dakar.
This is how Blue Cross Blue Shield Global SolutionsSM turns tough moments into real help—making healthcare across borders easier, safer and full of support when it matters most.
